Limestone Mantel with Scrolled Corbels for a Vaulted Study

Almost all of the carving on this reclaimed limestone mantel is concentrated in two scroll corbels at the upper corners of the frieze, which is otherwise left plain beneath a straight moulded shelf. That restraint is deliberate and it is what lets the piece sit calmly in a barrel vaulted room finished in soft grey plaster, with a fire lit and a chandelier above.
