Cream limestone so densely fossilised that shells and mineral pockets surface across every face, worked into two recessed overmantel panels, a heavy stepped cornice and long tapering corbels that carry a cantilevered hearth bench wide enough to sit on. Logs stack inside a brick lined opening. It is a piece that occupies a wall completely and then invites you to lean against it, which is not something most formal chimneypieces are willing to do.
